This site supports the soon-to-be-published book "The Ways of the Sky," a compendium of letters from a son to his parents and to his new girlfriend. For two years, April 1943 to April 1945, RRD wrote over 300 letters detailing his experiences from his induction as a cadet in the AAF to his liberation from a German POW camp.

By providing supporting materials and history, including photographs, film, postcards, and collected items, we hope to honor not just RRD or Crew 288, but all the young men who gave their youth, health, and in some cases, their lives to defeat the Nazi war machine. We also seek to give due credit and recognition to the B-24 Liberator and to those who preserve and fly them still.
